IKEA has revamped its loyalty program in Canada.

You can now earn points to get money off your purchases, free food and discounts on the retailer's services.

IKEA Canada just announced changes to the loyalty program so that it offers "a personalized experience" to let you save on what you need.

If you've never heard of it, IKEA Family is the retailer's free loyalty program.

You get benefits like member-only discounts, free workshops and events, free coffee or tea in-store, access to the As-is online marketplace, breakage protection and more.

Before the program was revamped, IKEA would only discount some products for Family members, and you would get the savings when you scanned your loyalty card at checkout.

But now you can also collect points that can be redeemed for rewards like money off purchases, free food at the Swedish Restaurant and discounts on IKEA services.

As an IKEA Family member, here's how many points you can earn:

  • 1 point for every $5 spent in-store or online at IKEA
  • 1 point when logging into your IKEA Family profile on IKEA.ca or the IKEA app
  • 2 points when creating and saving a favourites list
  • 2 points when creating or sharing a gift registry
  • 20 points when creating and saving a kitchen plan in the online planning tool
  • 25 points when booking and attending a planning appointment

If you're a new member who signs up for IKEA Family now, you'll also get five welcome points.

Points for signing on and adding to favourites can only be earned once per week, and points for registries and planning can only be collected once per month.

You'll see the points in your IKEA Family account within 48 hours of making an eligible purchase or interaction.

Then, the points can be redeemed for rewards, including discounts on purchases, food and services at IKEA.

These are the discounts you can get on purchases with your points:

  • 50 points — $5 off your purchase
  • 100 points — $10 off your purchase
  • 250 points — $25 off your purchase
  • 500 points — $50 off your purchase

These are the IKEA food rewards you can get with your points:

  • 10 points — free cinnamon bun in the Swedish Restaurant
  • 30 points — free dessert in the Swedish Restaurant
  • 100 points — free adult meal in the Swedish Restaurant
  • 120 points — free bag of HUVUDROLL meatballs from the Swedish Food Market

These are the discounts you can get on services with your points:

  • 400 points — up to $40 off, free delivery
  • 400 points — $40 off assembly

Any unused points will expire 24 months after you collect them.
