Someone in Ontario won a $40 million jackpot with Lotto Max!

She found out her $6 ticket scored the multi-million dollar jackpot while doing her usual weekend routine at the gas station.

It was just announced that Elizabeth Trafford of Fergus, Ontario — northwest of Guelph — is a new Lotto Max winner.

She won the $40 million Lotto Max jackpot with the December 10, 2024 draw and bought the winning ticket at Blinkhorn's Corner Variety on St. David Street North in Fergus.

Trafford's Lotto Max winning numbers for that draw were 3, 6, 22, 30, 32, 40 and 46.

She is still in shock that her usual weekend routine turned into a multi-million dollar life-changing experience, according to OLG.

"Every Saturday I take my dog for a walk, then drive to a little nearby store to fill up with gas, grab a newspaper, and check my lottery tickets," she said.

"The first ticket I checked at the lottery terminal wasn’t a winner, but the second one blew up the machine, and all I saw was 'Big Winner!'" Trafford explained.

After realizing how much she'd won, Trafford "started to hyperventilate."

Then, she went to her car and called her son to tell him that she won $40 million.

"His initial reaction was disbelief, and it took a few minutes for him to understand this was not a joke," Trafford said.

Her son and his wife, who don't live in Fergus, immediately got in their car and drove to the town to be with her.

"All of a sudden, I realized this little slip of paper with Quick Pick numbers which I'd paid $6 for was now worth $40 million," Trafford said.

"I see myself as a steward of this money," Trafford explained. "There's so much good I can do with this windfall, and I want to give back in a meaningful way."

She is also going to spend some of the $40 million on travelling and taking care of her son.

"You always want to give something wonderful to your child. He will get a nice house, but I'm also comforted by the fact that he will inherit this legacy," she said. "It's important to know that this will go on."

Trafford also shared that when she told people of her $40 million Lotto Max win, they said to her, "If anyone deserves this, it’s you."

"This is quite something, and it's very meaningful to me," she said.
