According to a report from CBC News, the city's public health department reported that a 19-year-old man died from the disease, making him the first person in the province under the age of 20 to lose their life to COVID-19.

What this death shows us is that the disease can strike anyone, at any age.

Dr. Cécile Tremblay

The identity of the man has not been released to the public, but Tremblay added that deaths among this age group are very rare.

However, she also said that youths can carry the virus, and are more likely to spread it to others if they get together in large groups.

More young people are testing positive for COVID-19, with the latest data showing the number of cases in people under 30 jumping from 16.9 to 23.8% in the last three months.
