Canadian Soccer Star Alphonso Davies Is Getting All The Love From Trudeau & Drake
He's begging the PM to come home after his Champions League win. 🇨🇦
It’s been a pretty busy week for 19-year-old Alphonso Davies. On Sunday, the soccer superstar became the first male Canadian to ever take home a Champions League Final title. If that wasn’t enough, the UEFA champion is also getting love from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Drake. Impressive!
On August 23, Bayern Munich were crowned Champions League winners after defeating Paris St. Germain 1-0.
The exceptional victory was even sweeter for Canadian teenager Alphonso Davies, as he became the first male Canuck to ever hold that trophy.*
After the historic win, things got even sweeter for the Edmonton teenager. When he found out that 6ix rapper Drake was following him on Twitter, it’s fair to say he was pretty excited.
"Oh my god, I can’t believe! My night is complete, I’m going to bed,” shouted Davies in a hilarious social media clip.
If that wasn’t enough, Canada’s Prime Minister also had some love to share with the young
Tweeting the teen on August 24, Trudeau wrote, “A historic moment - you made Canadians proud out there. Congratulations on the big win, Alphonso!”
The 19-year-old responded to the PM to thank him, and took the opportunity to ask for a little favour.
"Thank you Prime Minister," wrote Davies, before asking, "Can I please come home for a week?"
Canada’s borders have beensince March 18, which means Davies is probably unable to come home without quarantining for two weeks.
It looks like he'll have to keep celebrating in Europe, for now anyway!
Sharing an insight into his Canadian background on Twitter, the young star wrote, “Who would have guessed it a kid from Canada, Edmonton Alberta.”
“Most people don’t even know where that is,” he wrote. “Where it snows I’m talking -40 weather, he’s now a champion league winner.”
Davies’ story is particularly inspiring, as he was born in a Ghanian refugee camp.
When he was five years old, his family immigrated to Canada, where his meteoric rise to soccer stardom began.
With a brand new Champions League medal, a very famous new follower, and a sweet message from the Prime Minister, life certainly looks pretty sweet right now for this 19-year-old!
