As cases of COVID-19 in Canada continue to surge, a similar trend has been spotted elsewhere in the world.

According to a Reuters tally, via CBC News, the United States reported a record-breaking number of new COVID-19 cases on October 23.

The spike of over 84,000 new cases broke the country’s previous record of 77,299, which was set back in July.

84,218 New cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. on Friday

America isn’t the only country to have set a new all-time high this week.

Just one day earlier, Canada also reported its highest-ever daily increase in the number of positive tests.

While the U.S. has a much larger population than Canada, the disparity between the two countries' daily record is pretty huge.

The American daily record sits at 84,218 new cases in one day, while Canada’s is 2,672.

While this figure seems pretty small in comparison, it’s still a concerning trend for Canada’s top doctor.

On Saturday, she warned that as more Canadians continue to test positive, it’s likely that more people could become seriously ill or die in the near future.
