Canada Just Reported Its Highest Ever Single-Day Jump In New COVID-19 Cases

Figures have now topped 206,000. 😳

There’s been a worrying update from the federal government. On Wednesday, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Canada reached an all-time high.

According to the latest data shared on October 21, more than 2,500 people tested positive for the illness in the previous 24 hours.

This has taken the country’s total number of active cases to 22,783.

2,672 New cases of COVID-19 in Canada

This comes as provinces like Ontario and Quebec have confirmed record-breaking numbers of their own this month.

As of Wednesday, Quebec had reported over 95,000 more total cases that Canada's least-affected province, Nunavut.

In the same week, Canada's overall number of cases topped the 200,000 mark.

Addressing these figures on Tuesday, the prime minister acknowledged, "Here, and around the world, the fight against this virus is far from over."

“This is a Team Canada effort," he added.
