Ontario's long-awaited new Costco warehouse will finally open today, offering locals a larger space and several brand-new features to explore.

The store is located at 107 Harry Walker Parkway S., Newmarket, ON, just off Highway 404 near Davis Drive. It replaces the Yonge Street warehouse, located just north of the town in East Gwillimbury, that operated for more than two decades. That former location won't disappear, though. According to a press release shared with Narcity, it's being converted into an East Gwillimbury Costco Business Centre, set to launch later this year.

The new warehouse will officially open its doors today (Wednesday, August 20), after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:30 a.m. with Newmarket Mayor John Taylor in attendance. Doors will open to the public at 7 a.m. The site will be the 42nd Costco location in the province of Ontario.

At 166,000 square feet (approximately 15,500 square metres), the store is significantly larger than its predecessor, featuring wide aisles, more than 1,300 shopping carts, and 1,000 parking spaces, as well as additional space for expanded departments.

The Newmarket location features a bakery, an expansive fresh produce area, a rotisserie chicken counter, a service deli, a fresh meat department, and self-service checkouts. There's also a sushi bar — making this just the second Costco in Ontario (the third in Canada) to offer one, after Brantford introduced the feature in 2024.

Other amenities include a hearing aid centre, optical department, five tire bays, a 24-pump gas station, and a larger food court.

The project has created approximately 70 additional jobs, in addition to the 450 employees at the East Gwillimbury location.

Opening-week promotions include discounts on big-ticket items. At the same time, the expanded services and wider selection are expected to draw the biggest crowds. Like other Ontario warehouses, the store also sells a variety of alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, champagne, and ready-to-drink options. There are over 3,200 products to choose from in store.

For longtime members used to the smaller Yonge Street store, the relocation marks a significant change. Now, residents will decide if the supersized warehouse makes their Costco runs easier — or just more hectic.
