It feels like a scene from a storybook.

If crisp autumn air, vibrant foliage, and historic charm sound like your idea of a magical getaway, you'll want to plan a fall trip to this storybook Ontario town.

Perched along the sparkling waters of Georgian Bay, Penetanguishene is a hidden gem offering old-world streets and stunning scenery.

As the leaves turn shades of red and gold, the harbour town transforms into a cozy setting straight off a postcard.

One of the highlights of the area is Discovery Harbour, a 19th-century British naval and military garrison. From October 1 to November 1, the historic village is hosting the Pumpkinferno event, and it looks like a scene from a Tim Burton film.

You can see thousands of glowing "fun-kins" lighting up the night, along with giant displays, festive treats, and spooky experiences.

You'll also want to head to the nearby Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, Ontario's first European community. The site will transport you back in time and offers several fall-themed events, such as a Hometown Harvest Festival.

Fall is all about scenic hikes, and there are some gorgeous trails to explore, just ten minutes away in Awenda Provincial Park. The area transforms into a fall dreamland, with vivid leaves and stunning water views.

According to Ontario Parks, you can "enjoy a natural amphitheatre of vivid colour at Kettle's Lake with a walk around the Wendat Trail."

There's nothing like strolling through a cozy small town during the fall, and Penetanguishene's charming downtown is brimming with local shops, warm cafes, and galleries.

You can pop by Sails Cafe for a specialty drink before strolling along the crisp autumn streets, popping into boutiques and enjoying the fall storefronts.

Other attractions to check out in the area include the Centennial Museum and the King's Wharf Theatre.

With glowing pumpkins, picturesque trails, and cozy fall charm, Penetanguishene is a magical spot to visit this fall.
