Ontario's 'sixth Great Lake' is a must-visit fall gem with turquoise water and cozy villages
It's home to gorgeous fall hikes.

A small town in Ontario. Right: A coastal destination in Ontario.
Ontario is famous for its Great Lakes, but there's a hidden "sixth Great Lake" waiting to be explored. With crystal-clear waters, quaint coastal villages, and breathtaking views, it's a majestic destination to visit, and it's even more magical during the fall.
As the air turns crisp, the white sand beaches and turquoise waves are framed by the warm glow of autumn colours, making it look like something off a postcard.
We asked readers on Facebook to share fall destinations every Ontarian should visit at least once, and this stunning region was one of the recommended spots.
Georgian Bay is nestled in the northeastern arm of Lake Huron, and it's home to some breathtaking scenery. Covering 5,792 square miles, it's only slightly smaller than Lake Ontario (7,320 square miles), which is why it's nicknamed "the sixth Great Lake."
Here you'll find 30,000 islands and 2,000 kilometres of shoreline, as well as "windswept pines, majestic towering cliffs, endless beaches and clear blue water," according to Visit Grey County.
The region is dotted with cozy small towns that transform into fall dreamlands as the summer fades. You can visit charming villages like Parry Sound, Collingwood, Penetanguishene, Thornbury, and Killarney for an enchanting fall outing. From warm cafes to sweet bakeries and stunning fall colours, these gems offer everything you need for a perfect autumn escape.
The area boasts many beautiful fall hikes where you can gaze over a variety of vibrant leaves. From the majestic Inglis Falls to the towering Lion's Head Lookout, there's no shortage of spots to take in the fiery colours and crisp fall air.
You'll want to spend some time in Blue Mountain Village, where you can enjoy colourful hikes, a mountain coaster through the foliage, and an Apple Harvest Weekend.
The region is also home to rustic cideries, dreamy orchards, and more to get you in the autumn mood.
Another highlight is The Crack Trail in Killarney Provincial Park, where you can gaze across misty mountains and enjoy a kaleidoscope of fall colours.
Or, take a ferry to Manitoulin Island, where you'll find red and gold forests along the Cup and Saucer Trail.
With turquoise waters framed by vibrant leaves, it's no surprise locals say this Ontario region is a must-visit during the fall.
