Ontario Street Racer Caught Speeding Down Highway 400 With An Infant In The Backseat

Stunt drivers are still taking advantage of the province's empty roads.

It appears that some drivers are still taking advantage of emptier roadways. One Ontario street racer was caught going nearly 200 kilometres an hour down Highway 400. OPP report that once pulled over, it was even discovered that the driver had an infant in the backseat.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident involving an infant and a street racer. The OPP announced on Twitter on June 8 that a driver was stopped going 170 kilometres an hour on the 400 series.

The driver was charged with street racing and received a seven-day licence suspension and vehicle impound due to his reckless actions.

"A street racer with an infant in the vehicle stopped for going 170km/h on Hwy400," read the tweet from the OPP.

However, this isn't the first time a driver has been reckless with a child in the car.

Last month, York Regional Police were forced into a wild chase after responding to a call about an impaired driver.

Officers later arrested a 34-year-old Newmarket man who was caught driving drunk with his four-year-old daughter in the car.

A video of the arrest was later released to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving.

Two Markham homes were destroyed back in May after a drunk driver attempted to flee from YRP officers.

The motorist, who police did not initially pursue, later smashed his vehicle into two houses in a quiet residential area. The accident caused significant damage to both properties.

Toronto Police have reported that stunt driving tickets shot up by nearly 200% after lockdown first began back in March.

In response, TPS stormed the 6ix streets with more officers cracking down on driving offences.

Likewise, Peel Regional Police claims they issued over 122 bylaw tickets as well as 67 additional tickets under the Highway Traffic Act in a single day last month.

A total of 370 cars were stopped, and two criminal charges were handed out.
