Ontario's weather forecast says snow squalls could bring up to 50 cm this week

Ontario's weather forecast is calling for lake-effect snow squalls over the next few days.
While most places under snow squall warnings are expected to get 15 cm to 30 cm of snow, some areas could get up to 50 cm!
According to The Weather Network, there will be multiple rounds of snowfall across southern and central parts of Ontario this week.
Lake-effect snow bands are expected to impact areas around Georgian Bay, including from Midland to Parry Sound, on Monday, January 13.
Those places could get up to 50 cm of snow locally while a widespread 15 cm to 30 cm is forecast for the surrounding areas.
Snow squalls will also pop up along the shores of Lake Huron, from the Saugeen Shores to the Bruce Peninsula, The Weather Network said.
It's forecast that Toronto and the GTA will get just two to five cm of snow.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued snow squall warnings for these areas:
- Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
- Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory
- Huntsville - Baysville
- Owen Sound - Blue Mountains - Northern Grey County
- Port Carling - Port Severn
- Saugeen Shores - Kincardine - Southern Bruce County
- Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay
- Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park
ECCC has warned of locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 15 cm to 20 cm, 20 cm to 30 cm, and 30 cm to 50 cm in these places.
During the snow squalls, you should expect reduced visibility and blowing snow.
"Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably," the warning noted. "Changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common."
It's expected that the rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some areas.
If you live or work in places under the snow squall warning, you're being told to "prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions."
The Weather Network said that lake-effect snow will continue on Tuesday, January 14 and into Wednesday, January 15.
Snow squalls will push south on Tuesday afternoon, which could bring a burst of snow to the GTA, and continue off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
