Orlando is still going ahead with a volleyball tournament next week even as COVID-19 maintains its stranglehold on the state.

The Orange County Convention Center will host an AAU Volleyball Tournament, its first event in months, but some have grown worried about its safety.

To have thousands of teenage girls and their parents congregating in a coronavirus hot spot to then turn around to [go home to] their home communities … just doesn’t seem real sensible.

The nine-day teen tournament is expected to see upwards of 17,000 patrons.

Orlando has become the sports mecca in the state, playing host to both the NBA and MLS down at Walt Disney World.

The events are being hosted despite the region, and Florida as a whole, continuing to see sky-high COVID-19 case numbers.
