A Heat Warning Is In Place For Ottawa Right Now & It's Going To Feel Like 40 C
Get ready, Ottawa! Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Ottawa, and it’s going to get real hot, real quick. If you’re already sweating, you can expect temperatures to feel like 40 C by Friday. In addition to that, the heat is going to persist all weekend long.
Just in time for summer to officially begin, the warm weather has definitely landed in the national capital region.
On Thursday, June 18, Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Ottawa and eastern Ontario, urging locals to be prepared for some seriously high temperatures.
“A prolonged period of hot weather is expected,” the advisory stated.
The notice explained that the heat will begin on Friday and persist through to Saturday evening. There’s also a good chance that it could continue well into Sunday, too.
On Friday, maximum temperatures are expected to reach 33 C, with the humidex making conditions feel closer to 40 C.
On Saturday, temperatures will climb to 35 C, and the humidex won’t be letting up either.
If you were hoping the evening would provide some relief, think again. The minimum overnight temperatures this weekend are expected to be between 18 and 20 degrees.
It’s time to get that air conditioning on!
The heat warning includes regions across eastern Ontario including Ottawa, Kingston, Smiths Falls, Napanee and Pembroke.
The agency advises locals to "drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place."
It also reminds pet owners to ensure animals are not left in parked cars.
It’s been a sweaty start to the weekend already, as temperatures on Thursday afternoon reached 31 C. With humidex, it felt closer to 33 C.
This has been the second heat wave to hit Ottawa during the spring season, after Environment Canada issued a similar warning back in May.

The forecast predicts blue skies and sun throughout, with summer officially arriving on Saturday evening.
