Everyone is talking about this. Jagmeet Singh is allowed to confront people about racism and make them uncomfortable by calling it out according to Justin Trudeau. The prime minister also wouldn't stand behind the Bloc Québécois.

During his press conference on June 18, Trudeau was asked about what went down in the House of Commons a day earlier when NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was kicked out.

"In regards to what Mr. Singh said, it is not for me to criticize any Canadian, particularly not the only racialized leader in the House of Commons for making other people uncomfortable by calling them out for not recognizing systemic discrimination," he said.

Trudeau noted that conversations around systemic racism in Canada are going to make people uncomfortable.

He also told reporters that Singh is allowed to make people uncomfortable by bringing issues to the forefront.

"I think it's important that we recognize when the only racialized leader in the House of Commons makes a statement like that, that it comes from a place that yes, will make people uncomfortable but needs to be dealt with," the Liberal leader said.

In the House that same day, Singh thanked Trudeau for what he said about him.

Trudeau also addressed the Bloc Québécois party as a whole.

"It is disappointing that the Bloc Québécois continues to refuse to accept that systemic discrimination, systemic racism exists within our country," he said.

Trudeau was asked if Bloc Québécois MP Alain Therrien was racist by voting against a motion from Singh about systemic racism.

"I think it remains problematic that the Bloc Québécois refuses to recognize systemic racism in the RCMP and in this country," he said.

He also mentioned that members of that party have to explain themselves as to why they resist recognizing the systemic racism that Canadians face every day.

Therrien voted against Singh's motion about recognizing systemic racism in the RCMP.

Singh said he turned to see who would vote no on that motion and when Therrien saw him turn, the MP voiced his dissent again, made eye contact with Singh and made a dismissive motion with his hand.

Due to that, the NDP leader called Therrien racist and was then was kicked out of the House for the day.

In a statement made after he was kicked out, Singh explained the situation.

"I'll be honest with you, I got angry but I'm sad now because why can't we act? Why can't we do something to save people's lives?"
