Trudeau Says He Wants To Keep Serving Canadians For 'A Number Of More Years'

The prime minister has no plans to change his career just yet! Justin Trudeau revealed that he wants to keep serving Canadians for several more years to come and says he’s still got “a lot” to do.

Speaking at the Reuters Next conference on January 14, the PM didn’t provide too many details about who could take over as Liberal leader, but he made it clear he has no plans to quit soon.

"I've still got a lot to do in terms of serving this country, so I'm looking forward to a number of more years of serving Canadians," he said during the interview.

However, he didn’t confirm or deny whether it would be Chrystia Freeland who may take over after him.

"My responsibility is to bring around me the best possible team I can to serve Canadians,” said Trudeau. “I won't speculate on what could happen years down the road."

Canada’s next federal election is set to take place in 2023, although it could be some time earlier due to the fact Trudeau only holds a minority government.

The PM has acknowledged on multiple occasions that a snap election is possible in 2021, but maintains that his party is focusing on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s not in our interests to have an election — people want us to work together to help them,” he reiterated last week.
