The Majority Of Ottawa's New COVID-19 Cases Are Children & People In Their 20s

Several are children aged 9 and under.
Managing Editor, Canada

A worrying trend has been spotted in Ottawa’s latest COVID-19 figures. Children and people in their 20s make up the majority of the city’s new cases, with several of these being kids aged nine and under.

New statistics coming out of Ottawa suggest that children and people in their 20s are being hit harder by the illness than they were previously.

On September 7, Ottawa Public Health reported 25 new cases of COVID-19. Of those, the majority were young people.

New cases aged 9 and under

Ottawa Matters reports that four of the new cases were children under the age of nine and four were individuals aged between 20 and 29.

Three new cases were also reported in people aged 10 to 19, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 60 to 69.

Only two new cases were confirmed in people in their 50s and 70s, and just one person is aged 90 or over.

It's a shift that's been spotted across the country, as 62% of Canada's active cases are under 40 years old.
