Winter is officially on the horizon! Ottawa’s weather is expected to get pretty wild today and Environment Canada has already issued a snowfall warning.

On Sunday, November 22, the government weather agency urged Ottawans to be prepared for the snowy conditions ahead.

The notice warned that between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow could fall between Sunday and Monday, potentially breaking a snowfall record for this date.

The amount to beat is 14.4 cm, which was set on November 22, 2007, according to CTV News.

15-20 cm The amount of snow expected in Ottawa

Per Environment Canada’s warning, the wintry weather will kick in on Sunday afternoon.

It’s expected to last until Monday morning, by which time the snow will have tapered off.

The agency explained that a snowfall warning is issued when “significant snowfall is expected.”

It comes as similar conditions are expected across wider Ontario.

It looks like it’s going to be a chilly Christmas, too. The Canadian Farmers' Almanac predicts that the province is in for plenty of freezing rain and ice during the festive season.

Stay warm, Ottawa!
