Fall is in the air and soon the landscapes will transform with vibrant hues of red and orange. One of the most magical things to do during the autumn season is visit a cozy small town.

There are several cute small towns to check out around Ottawa, and this lakeside destination might just be worth a road trip.

Located in New York State, this small town is about a 2 and a half hour drive from Ottawa, making it an idyllic spot for a fall day trip.

Saranac Lake is a charming village nestled amidst the Adirondack Mountains. During the autumn season, the town transforms into an autumn paradise with "crisp air, stunning foliage, and all things cozy," according to an Instagram post.

You can wander along the quaint Main Street where you'll find cute local shops, fall-themed cuisine, cozy cafes and more.

The Saranac Lake Farmer’s Market is brimming with fresh harvest produce.

If you're hoping to do some leaf-peeping, Baker Mountain is the place to go. The hike takes you to a towering lookout where you can enjoy colourful views of downtown Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake.

The Adirondack Rail Trail is another hike that boasts beautiful foliage views and connects several charming towns in the area. Don't forget to stop by Origin Coffee Co. to grab a cozy beverage before embarking on your journey.

You can also stroll along the water and gaze at the beautiful reflections of the fall colours.

There are lots of cute inns and cottages to stay at in the area, as well as delicious restaurants where you can enjoy an autumn meal.
