An RCMP dog helped to find a missing man after a four-kilometre night search — and it was only the pup's second month on the job!

Just before 11:00 p.m. on November 26, Kings District RCMP in Nova Scotia was called about a 76-year-old man that had gone missing from a home.

Officers and the force's Police Dog Services unit began looking for the man, along with local search and rescue teams.

After the Police Dog Services team tracked the man for about four kilometres through fields and a wooded area, he was found safe in the woods with help from the newest member of the Kings District force.

That's Lear, a two-year-old German Shepherd.

He's only been on active duty since September, which makes this his longest search so far according to CBC News.

The RCMP told Narcity that the pup has been with them since he was born, because he's part of the force's breeding program as his mother was an RCMP dog herself.

His father was also a police dog!

This pup was trained by officers early on and went to Innisfail, Alberta for a two and a half month course before finding his fur-ever home in Nova Scotia.

Lear will continue with training throughout his career as a K9.

Good boy, Lear!
