State Legislators Just Formally Asked For The Canada-US Border To Be Reopened ASAP
They want Ottawa and the White House to take action right away. 🇨🇦🇺🇸
U.S. legislators have made a formal request to reopen the Canada-U.S. border, according to new reports.
On July 14, the Midwestern Legislative Conference called on the White House and Ottawa to take immediate action regarding the ongoing travel ban at its annual meeting.
The conference includes states like Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and more, as well as the province of Saskatchewan. Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba are affiliate members.
The Canadian Press, per CTV News, reports that the coalition of legislators wants the border to be reopened to fully vaccinated travellers.
U.S. lawmakers say that what qualifies as essential travel has been decided by individual border officials, creating confusion for travellers in Canada and the United States.
The ban on non-essential travel between the two countries is set to remain in place until at least July 21, 2021, although it could be extended further.
On July 5, some travel restrictions were eased for fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents in Canada, although this has not been applied to travellers from other countries.
