Dr. Tam Just Explained Why It's So Important To Get A Second COVID-19 Vaccine Dose

The top doctor shared the difference between first and second doses.

Contributor

As more Canadians are getting vaccinated, Dr. Theresa Tam shared the importance of getting a second COVID-19 vaccine dose.

The top doctor said in a tweet that first doses provide "priming immunity" that gives us good protection against COVID-19 while reducing our chances of becoming severely ill.

Meanwhile, a second dose "boosts our immune systems to build strong, longer lasting immunity," she wrote.

Vaccination data from the Canadian government was updated on June 4. At that time, 56.78% of Canada's population had received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Meanwhile, only 5.71% of the population was fully vaccinated.
