Police in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, are asking nearby residents of Craigmillar Avenue to “shelter in place” as officers deal with an ongoing situation in the area.

At around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary tweeted to say that there was a “developing situation” in the area, and said that the road would be closed until further notice.

We are at the scene of a developing situation on Craigmiller Ave, St. John’s. Residents in the area are asked to “SHELTER IN PLACE” until further advised. Craigmiller Ave is closed until further notice.


Royal Newfoundland Constabulary

According to CBC News, there is a heavy police presence in the area, and officers were spotted carrying long guns.

An ambulance was seen entering the area at around 9 a.m. local time, and reports of a “body covered in a yellow tarp lying in the street” have been circulating.

According to one resident, per CBC, the sounds of gunshots or fireworks were heard around 4 a.m. The police presence followed shortly after.
