You Can Catch Free Flicks Under The Stars Near This Tampa Bay Beach This Summer

The perfect summer night!
Contributor

What’s better than a classic movie night? A movie night by the beach, of course! Throw in the word “free” and you’ve got yourself the perfect date. The Sunsets of Pier 60 Festival has been a place to celebrate art, music, and the community of Clearwater for years, and all through the summer, you can catch some of your favorite flicks for free at their Movies in the Park event.

While the free movie event is usually offered year-round, the weekly movie nights have been restricted to only the summer months this year.

A post of the festival’s official Facebook page details the decision, with comments explaining that the choice stems from the spread of the novel coronavirus.

While festival officials are unsure whether this will be the final installment of the 10-year-long tradition or a temporary suspension, they're still currently exploring their options.

For now, movie nights will only be offered during the summer months for a 10-week series starting July 3 with a screening of Disney's beloved Moana.

Other movies you can catch throughout the summer include Grease, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, Pirates of the Caribbean, Up, and numerous other Disney animated classics.

These movies are free for all to attend, and you can find the full schedule of your favorites on their official Facebook event page.

Moviegoers will be encouraged to “spread kindness” from six feet apart, with masks suggested, but not required.

Popcorn and other concessions will be available onsite. You’ll want to make sure you get there early, the movies start right at dusk. Bring your boo or BFFs for a cute and cheap date night.

The Sunsets of Pier 60 Festival has been bringing the Tampa community together since 1995, officially expanding to a seven nights a week affair in 1998.

Locals and tourists alike travel from all over the world to enjoy the pristine beaches of Florida’s gulf shores, and just maybe you’ll be able to enjoy the free movie nights at their regularly scheduled times again soon!
