The US Is No Longer On Europe’s Safe Travel List But Canada Still Made The Cut
A reminder that Canada's borders reopen to international travellers September 7.
The European Union removed six countries from their safe COVID-19 travel restrictions list on Monday, August 30 - but Canada wasn't one of them.
The United States, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro, and North Macedonia were taken off the list, which means people arriving into Europe are likely to face extra COVID-19 screening measures.
Canada is one of 17 countries that remain on the safe list.
According to a news release from the European Council, the list assesses each country's current COVID-19 epidemiological situation and its overall response to handling the pandemic.
Canada's international borders reopen to tourists on September 7 but only for fully vaccinated travellers.
The Government of Canada continues to advise against all non-essential travel abroad, as it "increases your risk of exposure to COVID-19 and its variants, as well as of spreading it to others."
