York regional police say four pedestrians, including two children, were struck by a vehicle in Richmond Hill, north of Toronto, on Thursday afternoon.

They say two women and the children, ages seven and one, were struck by an SUV at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Newkirk Road at around 3:18 p.m.

Police say one of the women was taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition while the other three pedestrians sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

They say the driver of the SUV stayed on the scene and was co-operating with police.

Police say they are trying to determine how the collision happened and whether the seriously injured woman was working as a crossing guard at the time.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the investigators.
