A Brampton Amazon facility is being ordered to close all of its shifts for two weeks after it was deemed a high-risk exposure site.

Peel Public Health issued a statement on the closure, adding that all employees of the facility, located at 8050 Heritage Rd., must isolate for a full two-week period starting at 12:01 a.m. on March 13.

The statement says that while the rate of COVID-19 infection in Peel Region has been decreasing, "the rate inside this facility has been increasing significantly."

"This Amazon facility is in a vulnerable community and employs thousands of people. Immediate action must be taken to protect these essential workers and the community where they live," said the region's medical officer of health Dr. Lawrence Loh.

In January, Peel Region had an outbreak at a Canada Post facility in Mississauga, which led to 350 postal workers in self-isolation. One employee who became infected died from the disease.
