Chapman’s Ice Cream is in discussion with the Grey Bruce Health Unit about securing needed subzero freezer space for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, if needed. Chapman's Ice Cream

The subzero freezers could be used to store Grey Bruce Public Health's incoming shipment of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

"As soon as we saw that the Pfizer vaccine needed to be stored at below -70 C, we knew these freezers will be in great shortage," Ashley Chapman, vice president of Chapman’s Ice Cream, said to Narcity in a statement.

"So, we reached out to our equipment supplier to secure needed freezing units for our Health Unit, if such need arises."

Chapman's freezer storage facilities typically operate at a temperature of -35 C.

However, new equipment will be placed inside the current freezer space, offering "a more reliable outcome" for the required storage temperature.

Narcity also reached out to Grey Bruce Public Health who was able to confirm the proposal was in its early stages.
