Ontario's New COVID-19 Cases Jump Back Up To Over 200 In One Day

It was still under 300 for the sixth day in a row.

While Ontario is seeing progress in reopening and people getting together, the province is still dealing with the pandemic. COVID-19 cases in Ontario took a slight jump back up today. Even still, the downward trajectory continues.

The Ontario Government reported 266 new cases as of June 13. These mark a 0.8% increase in the total number of provincial cases and a 46.2% increase from the previously reported number of 182.

Despite the slight increase, the province's Minister of Health Christine Elliott tweeted that this still marks the sixth day in a row that they have seen fewer than 300 new cases.

"Today, Ontario is adding 266 new cases of #COVID19, a 0.8% increase and an uptick over yesterday, but the 6th straight day of fewer than 300 new cases. With 351 more resolved, there are 85 fewer active cases, or 914 fewer active cases since Tuesday," she wrote.

Elliott also notes that as testing continues to expand, there may be more reported cases each day. She adds that on June 12, 27,000 tests were processed.

She also confirmed that the number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU has dropped to 110, the lowest number since April 29.

The province has seen 31,992 cases in total, with 26,538 of them having been resolved.

Ontario has begun moving into phase 2 of reopening in most areas, with the Greater Toronto Area being the exception.

The government recently announced that people can begin forming 10-person social circles that do not require any distancing.

They also announced that weddings and funerals in the province can now be attended by 50 people, with receptions for these events still being limited to 10 attendees.

As cases keep declining, the number of cases among young people has actually risen, particularly in the Hamilton region, where 43% of people diagnosed with COVID-19 over 10 days leading up to June 5 were in their 20s.
