Ontario Reported Over 400 Daily COVID-19 Cases But Not All Of Them Are New

More cases continue to be confirmed in the province. COVID-19 in Ontario has now surpassed 30,000 with more than 400 being reported in on June 6. However, not all of those are actually new ones.

Ontario released new COVID-19 data for the province at 10:30 a.m. ET on June 6.

As of that time, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in Ontario reached 30,202.

Of the confirmed cases, 455 were part of the daily total reported but not all of them are newly discovered ones.

Due to a delay in reporting between a laboratory and public health, 68 cases made public on June 6 should have been part of earlier reports.

Public Health Ontario told the CBC that the delay was because of a communication breakdown between an assessment centre and hospital lab that didn't communicate positive tests to public health units.

If there was no delay, the daily total for the day would have been 387.

That's a 1.5% increase from the previous day's report.

Also, the total number of deaths in the province related to the virus is 2,407.

On a lighter note, 23,947 of people who have tested positive for the virus, or 79.3%, have recovered from it.

So far, only 12.2% of cases have resulted in hospitalization.

The Greater Toronto Area accounts for 66.9% of all COVID-19 cases in the province.

On June 4, the Public Health Agency of Canada released new data on the virus that showed more than 90% of the national case count over the previous 14 days coming from Ontario and Quebec.

The same day that this spike in new cases was reported, Ontario extended emergency orders until June 19.

That means that all the measures currently in place like the limits on gatherings and the restrictions on restaurants will continue on.

Emergency orders were supposed to expire on June 9.

Earlier in the week, the province's state of emergency was extended until June 30.
