The premier assured the province on Tuesday that no resident will be evicted amid stay-at-home orders with an eviction freeze in Ontario.

Ford announced that the province was halting enforcement for residential evictions while the state of emergency is in place.

"Ontario is exploring all options available to put a temporary residential evictions moratorium in place, and will have more to say in the coming days," says the province's news release.

Toronto tenants in particular have been organizing within their communities and holding demonstrations in an effort to stop evictions.

While the city did have an eviction moratorium in place for much of the spring, it was lifted in late July and evictions resumed.

Many announcements were made by the premier on Tuesday. Ontario's state of emergency has been reinstated, a stay-at-home order was issued, and public health measures were increased.

The measures come into effect on Thursday, January 14 at 12:01 a.m., and the premier says that it has never been more important for everyone to stay home and save lives.
