Tory Says We're 'Lucky' To Have Ontario’s Finance Minister After Caribbean Vacay

"He is as hard-working and dependable a person as you'll find in public."

As Ontario's finance minister, Rod Phillips, continues to face controversy, Mayor John Tory is speaking out.

On Wednesday, Tory told CP24 that the minister had "learned a lesson" during an interview.

Rod Phillips came under fire this week after it was revealed that he had travelled to St. Barts over Christmas break.

A decision many Ontarians, including Premier Doug Ford, viewed as reckless considering the looming threat of COVID-19.

However, Tory appeared unwillingly to double-down on the criticism against Phillips and, instead, he praised him as a "dependable" guy.

"He is as hard-working and dependable a person as you'll find in public life and, quite frankly, we're lucky to have people like him," Tory added.

However, it seems that Ontario's premier doesn't feel the same.

On Tuesday, Ford released a statement saying, "I have let the minister know that his decision to travel is completely unacceptable and that it will not be tolerated again."
