Groups of protestors have been spotted swarming Mississauga streets this week to demand justice for Ejaz Choudry. In a video that was posted on social media, activists are heard chanting "f*** the police," while blocking traffic. Multiple police cars were spotted arriving on the scene of the Mississauga protest for Ejaz Choudry.
Footage of the demonstration began popping up on Instagram on Tuesday.
In one video, police can be seen arriving at the protest as "FTP" by YG is blasted from a speaker with others chanting along with it.
The crowd of people are seen taking up the entire intersection and blocking traffic during the song. Police are seen exiting their cars and heading to the crowd before the video is cut off.
"Protesters in Mississauga earlier today Singing FTP and blocking an intersection following the police shooting of Ejaz Choudry in Malton," read the post from 6ixBuzz.
Since Monday, protestors have been taking over the streets to demand justice.
According to CTV, Goreway and Morning Star Drive were full of people for over 24 hours.
Other videos highlight a more peaceful section of the protest, showing a large crowd of people taking a knee in honour of Choudry.
Earlier this month, 62-year-old Choudry was shot and killed by Peel Police during a wellness check.
The responding officers reportedly used a ladder to crawl onto his balcony and enter his apartment.
According to Choudry’s family, he suffered from schizophrenia.
When police entered his home, the SIU reported that an “interaction” occurred. Choudry was then shot multiple times by an officer.
Peel Police Services Board later issued a statement saying they were" saddened by the events of recent weeks," in which two separate mental health-related calls into Peel Regional Police resulted in fatal shootings.
The statement comes on the heels of a worldwide movement to defund the police.
A petition and GoFundMe page have also been started in reaction to Choudry's death.
Over 30,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the police involved in the shooting go to jail.
