11-Year-Old Ontario Boy Dies After Being Struck While Biking Near A Highway 407 Ramp

Police are searching for witnesses.

An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near a Highway 407 on-ramp in Markham on Thursday.

The OPP's Highway Safety Division reported that the boy was struck at approximately 4 p.m. while crossing the ramp, which connects the northbound lanes of Warden Avenue to Highway 407.

The child was transferred to a nearby trauma centre in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt revealed in an update that the driver remained at the scene. Police are now calling for any witnesses to come forward.

"Our deepest condolence and thoughts are with his family and friends," police said on Twitter.
