797 New COVID-19 cases on October 8

Of these, 265 are in Toronto, 182 are in Ottawa, and 78 are in York Region.

And 57% of them are among people under the age of 40 years old.

Minister Elliott also said that 48,500 tests were conducted, which is the largest number of tests completed to date.

Elliott ended her announcement by warning Ontarians about Thanksgiving weekend.

"Remember the safest way to celebrate is with those in your household and to gather with friends and family virtually."

"Please remember to continue to follow the public health measures that will help us to stop the spread," she wrote on Twitter.

So far, the province has recorded a total of 55,945 cases since the start of the pandemic.
