It seems that another Ontario official decided to head abroad over the holiday season despite stay-at-home orders.

Ontario hospital CEO and Member of the Ontario COVID-19 Advisory Table Tom Stewart has resigned from his advising position after taking a trip to the Dominican Republic while on vacation from December 18 to January 5.

I regret this non-essential travel and I’m sorry. Tom Stewart

St. Joseph’s Health System put out a statement on Tuesday.

“I recognize everyone should be avoiding non-essential travel now, including me,” wrote Stewart.

“As a health system leader, my actions in no way reflect the tireless dedication and commitment of the staff at St. Joseph’s Health System, who continue to live the legacy of our organization every day.”

After Ontario's former Finance Minister Rod Phillips resigned after vacationing in St. Barts last month, several other Canadian politicians came under fire for trips abroad over the holidays.

An MP in Manitoba, a Liberal politician in Quebec, as well as several government officials in Alberta admitted to travelling amid the pandemic.
