John Tory Says Toronto Has A 'Fairly High' Chance Of Entering The Grey Zone Next Week

Torontonians could finally see themselves move back into Ontario's colour zones next week.

Mayor John Tory told CP24 on Monday that the city will likely enter the grey zone of Ontario's reopening plan on February 22.

I think the likelihood of entering the grey zone is fairly high. Mayor John Tory

However, Tory also warned residents not to expect a big difference if the city does make the transition.

"The grey zone really doesn't bring about a huge number of changes compared to what we are experiencing today," the mayor stated.

"I think the most important thing is going to be that people continue to stay at home," he added.

However, if Ontario's stay-at-home order is lifted by next week, Torontonians could be able to shop indoors for the first time in months.

According to Ontario's updated reopening framework, regions in the grey zone can operate non-essential retailers at a 25% capacity limit.

"The grey zone in its modified form would allow for some people, a very limited number of people, to go into smaller business and it would also reduce the number of people allowed into bigger businesses," Tory concluded.

Starting on Tuesday, 27 other health regions will be entering into Ontario's coloured zones.

However, Toronto, York, Peel and North Bay Parry Sound will remain in lockdown for the rest of the week.
