Families across the province should be receiving a little bit of extra cash from the Ontario government within the next two months.

During the introduction of the new provincial budget on Thursday, the Ford government announced that it would be giving bonuses to Ontario families for the second time during the pandemic.

Families will receive $200 for every child under 12 in their family, and $250 for every person under 21 with special needs.

"We have heard from parents that new expenses to support their kids' education in this COVID-19 era are straining their pocketbooks," said Minister of Finance Rod Phillips on Thursday.

Phillips said that the $380 million for this initiative is "money well spent." 

The cheques should be issued in time for the holidays. 

Last month, the federal government rolled out the Canada Recovery Benefit, which had 240,000 applicants in just one day.

The benefit guarantees $500 a week for Canadians for up to 26 weeks.
