Twenty-nine people have been charged with breaking COVID-19 regulations after Peel Police rolled up to an Airbnb party in Mississauga.

Police think that about 60 people were at the party, but according to a tweet from Peel's Deputy Police Chief, others ran away when police and by-law officers arrived.

Twenty-seven people have been slapped with $880 fines, and the two hosts of the party face fines of at least $10,000 for their part.

Two of the 27 people charged with attending the party were also arrested and charged with obstructing justice after they refused to give police and by-law officers their IDs, according to 680 News.

"It's a tough time for everyone, [and] these antics help no one," said Peel Police's Deputy Chief Marc Andrews in a tweet.

Police officers in Ontario have stopped parties in some strange places this year, like the two times that Toronto Police had to break up parties in commercial storage units.

A spokesperson from Airbnb wrote that the reported behaviour was "outrageous" and that the listing has been deactivated while the company reaches out to Mississauga officials.*

In August 2020, Airbnb announced a global ban on parties and events at their listings.

Guests who break those rules — which are in place for the foreseeable future — are liable to have their accounts suspended or removed from Airbnb.
