Residents of the Peel Region will be able to dine indoors for the first time in weeks on Saturday.

However, the community's top doctor is now recommending tighter gathering restrictions.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Dr. Lawrence Loh, Medical Officer of Health, recommended stricter social gathering limits and a ban on weddings and large gatherings.

To keep everyone safe, I am recommending that you stop all non-essential in-person interactions." Dr. Lawrence Loh

Loh states that you should only be meeting people in-person when absolutely possible and should avoid social outings.

"This means no private gatherings in households," Loh continued. "Meet online, or meet later."

In fact, Peel Region residents should only be seeing people in their families at this time.

Loh states that it is important to follow these rules to keep the balance when venues start to reopen.

"While these gyms and indoor dining are reopening [...] then we need to address some of the other transmission."

The Ontario government initially banned indoor dining in the province's hot spot areas for 28 days on October 10, 2020.
