11 Toronto restaurants had DineSafe infractions from May 8 to 14 and one was closed down

Toronto restaurants regularly undergo inspections in order to ensure that they meet certain requirements and standards, and if they don't meet them they incur infractions that can affect whether or not they can remain open.

DineSafe, an inspection system based on provincial and municipal regulations, has three types of infractions: crucial, significant and minor. If one or more significant infractions are observed at a restaurant, they are given a Conditional Pass which means that the restaurant will be reinspected.

"If the infractions are corrected and no other infractions or only Minor Infractions are found, a Pass Notice will be issued," explains the City of Toronto. "If the infractions are not corrected by the time of the first re-inspection, a ticket will be issued and a second re-inspection will be conducted at a later date."

In the case of crucial infractions, "an order to close the premises may be issued and/or immediate action must be taken to remove or eliminate the health hazard."

"Crucial infractions are conditions that endanger food directly, such as contamination, time-temperature abuse or lack of safe-to-drink water or any other condition that constitutes a health hazard," says the city.
