Toronto restaurants have to undergo regular inspections to ensure they follow regulations. And sometimes, some neighbourhood favourites don't pass all the tests.

In Toronto, the DineSafe inspection system follows a standardized process required by the Ministry of Health that assesses the conditions of a restaurant based on the Ontario Food Premises Regulation and other by-laws.

According to the City of Toronto, "The failure of an eating and drinking establishment operator to meet the minimum requirements or standards set out in legislation is referred to as an infraction."

There are three different kinds of infractions that an establishment can receive: "crucial," "significant" and "minor." A restaurant can still pass their inspection with a few minor infractions, but anything significant or crucial triggers a Conditional Pass.

Between January 16 and 22, DineSafe handed out Conditional Passes to 12 Toronto restaurants.

When a restaurant receives a Conditional Pass, "a Public Health Inspector will re-inspect an establishment within 24-48 hours of the initial inspection. If the infractions are corrected and no other infractions or only Minor Infractions are found, a Pass Notice will be issued," says the city website. Meanwhile, any crucial infraction that isn't addressed immediately results in the establishment getting shut down.

Here are 12 Toronto restaurants that have received a Conditional Pass over the last week, their addresses and how many infractions of each type they received.
