Patios In The Middle Of The Street Are Coming To Toronto Really Soon
People are finally getting the chance to go back to their favourite eateries as Toronto restaurants reopen, and now they will have an easier time building new patio spaces to accommodate more customers.
In a July 11 news release, the city announced that it would be launching the CaféTO program and application blitz, which will help identify where restaurants can expand their outdoor spaces and make the application process faster, with Mayor John Tory saying "We are doing everything we can as a municipal government to support restaurant and bar operators in the city following the COVID-19 shutdown, and this blitz is just one example of that effort."

Restaurant and bar patios are an integral part of Toronto’s economy and supporting them during these challenging times is a top priority.
Starting tomorrow, there will be more curb-lane closures across the city, with additional installations of outdoor spaces coming in the next week.
So far, there have been 47 lane closures in support of 73 restaurants across the entire city.
Toronto is currently in phase 2 of the reopening process, which allows bars and restaurants to be open for service as long as they can provide appropriately distanced outdoor space for customers.
