Police say that 58-year-old Mohamed-Aslim Zafis was seated outside the IMO Mosque on September 12 when he was approached by the suspect and stabbed once. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities said that there did not appear to be any motive, nor any prior relationship between the two men, according to CBC News.

Von Neutegem has been charged with first-degree murder. Police had said earlier in the investigation that they believed this could have been the work of a serial killer.
