After administering tests to its entire staff and student body, a Toronto school is reporting 19 cases of COVID-19.

According to reports by CP24, a letter from the principal of Thorncliffe Park Public School was sent to parents on Sunday evening, informing them that 18 students and one staff member tested positive.

"I know news of these additional cases will, understandably, be worrisome for families,” said principal Jeff Crane in the letter.

Since COVID-19 continues to spread in the community, finding additional cases in schools from broad testing is not unexpected at this time. Jeff Crane

The school's positivity rate is approximately 4%, the outlet reports. The East York community that the school is located in has a positivity rate of 16%.

"As a result, TPH does not believe it is necessary to close the school at this time,” Crane said.

The letter states that a deep clean would be done of the school before classes and testing resume on Monday.

Narcity has reached out to the TDSB for more information and we'll update the story when we hear back.

Students of the TDSB have been asked to bundle up in class this year, as windows will remain open periodically to keep rooms ventilated.
