Toronto's New Vaccine Facility Will Make Canadians 'Self-Sufficient' For Next Pandemic

"When the next pandemic hits, whatever it might be, we will be prepared."

Ontario has just announced that it will be getting a new Toronto vaccine facility that will help us become "self-sufficient" by the next pandemic flu.

In a press conference on Wednesday, it was announced that Sanofi, a global biopharmaceutical company, will be building a new facility in Canada to produce more flu vaccines.

The Ontario government states that they will be able to "bulk manufacture Fluzone® High-Dose Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine," which is a flu vaccine that is currently meant for people 65 years old and older.

"When the next pandemic hits, whatever it might be, we will be prepared as a nation," states François-Philippe Champagne, minister of innovation, science and industry.

The new facility, which is expected to open in 2026, will also make the province a "strong candidate" for other vaccine production in the future.
