TTC delays are ongoing but you can take the GO Train for the same fare

The TTC is facing several delays and service interruptions due to Toronto's weather.
Toronto commuters are facing another rough morning as TTC delays continue to pile up after the city's back-to-back snowstorms, but there's a silver lining — GO Transit is stepping in to help.
According to the TTC, subway service on Line 1 and Line 2 is running slower than usual due to ice and snow buildup, leading to longer wait times and crowded platforms.
But if you're looking to fast-track your commute and are near Main or Kennedy stations, you can hop on the GO Train and pay the same fare as a regular TTC ride — and with way fewer stops along the way.
The delays started early Wednesday morning, with the TTC posting on X (formerly Twitter) around 7:40 a.m. that "snow and ice buildup is impacting our train yards, with 37 of 55 scheduled trains running on Line 1."
Normally, trains arrive every three minutes, but today, the TTC says commuters should expect to wait closer to five.
Line 2 is also feeling the effects of winter weather, with the TTC warning of "delays between Woodbine and Kennedy due to icy rail conditions" that could add up to 10 extra minutes to your trip.
GO Transit riders can take advantage of the TTC-GO co-fare, which allows customers to switch between the two services at Main and Kennedy stations without paying extra. The TTC confirmed on X that "customers may continue to use GO Transit, for the cost of a TTC fare, at Main and Kennedy Stations."
So, if your usual subway route is backed up, the GO Train might be the faster option.
TTC officials are blaming extreme wind and blowing snow at Wilson Yard for the reduced train availability, stating that crews are "working in brutal conditions" to get more vehicles on the tracks.
Meanwhile, streetcar and bus routes are also dealing with delays and detours, including power lines down along the 37 bus route and mechanical issues affecting the 501 streetcar.
If you're commuting today, patience is key. And if you're near a GO station, you might want to skip the subway stress altogether and take the GO Train instead.
