Trudeau Says There Will Be 'Consequences' For Federal Workers Who Refuse To ...

Justin Trudeau has reiterated that there will be "consequences" for federal employees who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Speaking to reporters during a campaign stop in Markham on Tuesday, the party leader doubled down on the Liberals' plan to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for federal workers and some travellers.

"We have made the decision that federal public servants need to be fully vaccinated," Trudeau said. "That is something that we're also applying to everyone who gets on a plane or train in the coming months in Canada."

He said the move would help to "put an end to this pandemic crisis in Canada" and would keep Canadians safe.

"The bottom line is if anyone who doesn't have a legitimate medical reason for not getting fully vaccinated chooses to not get vaccinated, there will be consequences," he continued.

To enforce the mandate if elected, the Liberal Party would work with "the collective bargaining agents, with the unions, with the various employers within the public sphere, the federal sphere."

While Trudeau did not provide an explanation as to what these consequences may be, Liberal officials have previously stated that public service managers will be "in a position to deal with employees that decide not to respect the mandatory requirement."
