The city's West End neighbourhood is a vibrant part of our LGBTQ2+ community, and love drowned out hate last night when a controversial anti-gay preacher came to Vancouver to make some remarks.

Pete Fry, a city councillor captured the scene in a video posted to Twitter on the evening of Monday, August 31.

David Lynn, a Toronto street preacher whose comments have been called hate speech, started his "Cross Canada Tour" in Victoria, B.C. on August 29.

Bopping to a Lady Gaga anthem, Beach Avenue was filled with supporters — many appeared to be wearing masks and they seemed to have overwhelmed the preacher in protest.

This comes just a week after a man was beaten and had his leg broken when he confronted anti-gay protesters in Davie Village.
