One Canadian city just proved it's living its best life — ranking among the happiest cities in the world. And surprisingly, it was the only Canadian city to crack the top 100.

The Happy City Index — which has built a database on modern urban living — ranks cities based on factors like Citizens, Governance, Environment, Economy, Health, and Mobility. Using that data, the 2025 global ranking is now out, and guess who’s smiling?

Vancouver came in at 11th place overall, earning the highest spot in North America and scoring the "Gold" title among the world's happiest cities.

Ahead of Vancouver were Copenhagen, Zurich, Singapore, Aarhus, Antwerp, Seoul, Stockholm, Taipei, Munich, and Rotterdam.
As for the rest of Canada? The results weren't quite as cheerful. Halifax came in next at 148th place, followed by Toronto (160th), Ottawa (178th), and Quebec City (193rd).

So if you're looking for happy vibes and global recognition, it looks like Vancouver is the place to be — not just in Canada, but across North America.

While the high cost of living in Vancouver often grabs headlines, this ranking suggests that the city has it's perks. Whether it’s ocean views, vibrant neighbourhoods, or a wellness-focused lifestyle, there's lots about Vancouver that keeps its residents smiling, and the world is taking notice.
