Torontonians, prepare yourselves. Montrealers, you too. Because Canada's coolest city was just named, and it's not what you might expect.

A new ranking collected data on everything from the number of hidden gem cafes and record stores to tattoo parlours and the age of residents – to find out which Canadian city has the most "cool" factor. Betway's study revealed that, based on their analysis, Vancouver is officially the coolest city in Canada.

While other cities in the country pride themselves on being distinct and edgy (looking at you, Montreal), the data has given us an unexpected answer.

Vancouver is kind of the underdog here, often known for its semi-basic vibes, but it actually has a lot going for it – which the ranking highlighted.

The press release for the study shouted out the city's "progressive multicultural vibe paired with the breathtaking natural surroundings."

"Its streets are alive with creativity, boasting 16 vinyl record stores, while the 48 tattoo parlours add to its edgy appeal - both making self-expression part of the city's cultural fabric," it added.

B.C. has a lot going for it, because Victoria took second place on the ranking, as a stand-out for it's foodie scene with loads of dietary preference-friendly options. Clearly, the West Coast is the place to be!

As for Montreal, it still held a respectable third place on the ranking. Toronto though was way down at seventh place, with Edmonton, Calgary, and Ottawa all coming ahead of it. Yikes!
